It isnt the hat, boots, or belt buckle that make a cowboy. Its the code. And its a code I believe in. In that sense, I'm a cowboy. I own 25 horses and a 30 acre place on a small lake in central Iowa. I love spending time in the outdoors, trail riding, going to rodeos, sharing time with friends, and even spending a few days in a big city. I can't claim to be a genuine cowboy, But I own a 30 acre ranch on a small lake in central Iowa and own 25 horses (Paints, Arabians, and Saddlebreds). I love to trail ride (along with a ton of other outdoor things), go to rodeos, travel to see new places or spend a few days in a big city, snuggle on the couch watching TV, etc. etc. I'm of the old fashioned variety (also Old Guard) and my values line up those established by the Old West and the cowboys of the time.
