When I got there on Friday night, the rodeo was closed it self, so I went to the pool party, and ended up having a good time. The rodeo it self was smaller than I thought it would be, but they did have a good turn out though. It was everything a rodeo should be, but they only had 5 bull riders, give or take a few. Would I go there again? Only if I’m in the area. First I would try the rodeo out west. If your really heavy into it, I would go.

Looked like a great attendance... They did a great job... liked the VIP tent at Scandals but they had some problems being shut down do to noise complaints... All and all was a great time!

Well run rodeo at good venue. Pool party, welcome party and awards banquet at Scandals were very good. Rodeo went smoothly with very good food vendors. Dancing at Scandals was geat, big crowd. Did not go to Saturday night concert and heard that country western dancing that night was not very good. I just went to Scandals Sat. and Sun. nights and had fun. Enjoyed competing in Steer Deco, Steer Wrestling and Wild Drag. The 60's Contest Theme for Sunday's Wild Drag was fun, even if I didn't win, the winner had a great dress and white go-go boots. At least my Miami Dolphin's colored wild spandex was worth an honorable mention. Afternoon dancing at rodeo was good. I noticed another bar in Wilton Manor's downtown even had a CW dance tent. Special surprise was visit from Austin Texas Baptist Women who did two shows---- they were great!
This was my first Sunshine Stampede and I'll probably be back next year, 4th weekend in April 2009 I believe, but I do wish they'd move this event to Jan. or March (not to conflict with Cowtown Rodeo in Ft. Worth early Feb. 2009).

this was my 2nd rodeo, 1st was 3-4 yrs ago, this time much much better, mostly due to the host bars, rosie's and scandles, non-stop country music, which is what a rodeo / country western should be., speaking of which, really enjoyed the guy from nashville who sang sunday.
got 2 complaints ... 1) need much more time in the day, maybe 7-8 hrs sleep all wknd, lol
however my 2 nd complaint is on the serious side, and is on no reflection on FGRA, host bars, hotels, etc .... instead sorry to say, my complaint is with some of the party goers .... how to say this .... please people learn some manners .... I know places get crowded, places get tight .... BUT ...if ya step on somebody's boots ... or bump into somebody , etc ...STOP and say pardon / excuse yourself ...DONT just keep on walking .... this happened to me several times , learn/get/use manners people ... or some redneck trucker will gladly teach ya some

I thought the entrees in each event were in some cases as good as any rodeo I've seen. I thought the program was well planned. The venders were nicely placed and more this year. And the crowd was fantastic--all beautiful men. I got a hoot out of the underwear on the goats event. All around I loved it.

Hey gmccowboyfl! Saw your comment and I agree with you 100%. During 2006 and 2007, there were twice as many people cruisin in the vendor area as there were actually watching the rodeo events. I think the rodeo will get better over the next couple years and I look forward to being a part of it.
For for the cowboys visiting for the first time or new to the area, you will never see the kind of local crowd that you might see up north or out west. Most of the locals are just cruisin, any chance to wear leather or walk around half naked, and "cowboy huntin".
Chances are you'll find your local cowboy crowd next the arena watching the rodeo. See you there.

I go to this rodeo because it's in my home state and within driving distance. Otherwise it can't compare to OKC, Ft. Worth, Calgary, & Denver. A lot of the Ft. Lauderdale locals come to this event even if they're not even interested. That, in my opinion, brings down the overall feel of it.

To be honest this was my first "GAY" Rodeo. I was so impressed with the whole experiance, from the actual events and contestants and the spectators and the support. I have horses and am currently looking for Quarter Horse to buy to ride in barrels/pole bending and other spead events. It braught back so many memories of growing up and competing as a youth. Cant wait for the spring rodeo...and hope I can volunteer in some way or possibly compete.

It was a very well run and fun rodeo. One of the best ones I have been to in my ten years of going to the IGRA rodeos.

The rooms filled up really quick last year for this rodeo and I couldn't get one at the host hotel.. has the hotel been decided?? I'd like to reserve early. I want to go to Florida this year.

The dates right now are tentative. All the rodeo associations have or will be submitting their applications
for rodeos at IGRA convention
this coming weekend in Kansas
City. Once they have been approved and confirmed, they
will probably post all of the
information on their individual rodoe chapter web
sites. Please check back in the next week or two to this site or to www.fgra.org.

It's my understanding that only one of the two host hotels (which are directly across the street from each other) has rooms that accomdate smokers. Both hotels share the rodeo parties/dances. -- Doogie

Last year Hilton had the Southrenmost Hoedown at the Hilton and the Sheraton had the pool party. Both were great Don't know if it is the same this year. But as far as hotels rooms they both great propertys. You can't go wrong with both

Bob Daumer the 2008 Rodeo Director told me tickets for the rodeo and weekend events will go on sale soon after the 15th of January.

Just wanted respond to GMCCOWBOYFL comments about there being a lot of gays that come to the rodeo that could care less about the rodeo action in the ring. You're right but it's pretty universal at all the gay rodeos just as I suspect at most other large gatherings of gay men and women. But they pay to get on the rodeo grounds and that keeps them going for those of us that enjoy the rodeo action be it in the rodeo ring, the commercial tents, the dance floor or the parties. In answer to the question: Do I have to be a member of the Florida Gay Rodeo Assoc. to ride? In order to compete,
you need to be a member of any one of the IGRA sanctioned rodeo chapters. As
a first time contestant, you can join any association at registration and register for your events after which, you have to pre-register. Competing in horse events, I
would join an assoc. first, and get info on the horse stalls and fees for that. Registration fees are now $25
per event per day. Added prize money is dependent on each individual rodeo association if they or sponsors kick in added prize
money for events.

Hey guys, just an FYI, tickets are now up on the FGRA.org web site for purchase. We have individual tickets for the rodeo on Saturday, Sunday, the Hoedown Saturday night or a weekend Pass. Tickets are all web based and you'll be able to print them out at home, no standing in Will Call lines. Just an added note, Dance tickets seem to sell out fast.

can i show up the morning of the rodeo, join a chapter pay the entry fees and then compete in the speed events...barrels, poles, etc...can it be tha simple the day of?

I believe the anwser is no, you cannot show up morning of rodeo and enter the events. That is why we have a registration time on Friday evening.

First time competitors do not have to pre-register for the rodeo. So all you have to do is be a member of an association at the time of registration and sign up. If you have competed before and have an IGRA number you can sign up for the speed events without pre-registration any events that involve the use of contractor livestock, like roping, or ruff-stock you would need to pre-register or there is a $50 late fee.
You just have to be a current member of an association. There are several associations that you can sign up for on line or you can make arrangements to join one on Friday morning, but you will need to have your membership card in hand, or the association trustee to let them know you are a member.

Pcolacowboy and MNrodeo are both correct to a degree. You do have to be a member of a IGRA sanctioned organization, FGRA will happily allow you to join their membership so that you can compete, but you DO have to got through registration on Friday evening. Currently, registration is scheduled to be at the Hilton, I think at 6pm. If you do not register on Friday night, you will not be allowed to compete. If you have any questions, you can email Cowboy Dan at webmaster@fgra.org, He is in charge of registration.

Not sure this is the place, but here it goes. Got dogged by my best friend and now i am stuck out being alone at the rodeo. Would like to find a nice cowboy that loves to dance and hang out at the rodeo. I'll be there friday thru sunday and looking for a roomie to split the cost of the room. Any hot cowboy that can lead, let me know and I'll follow. I'm on a dance team in Houston and was looking forward to the Hoedown and just dont want to be without a dance partner.
Please reply with a way to contact you. I would appreciate the great company for the weekend and hopefully make some new friends.
